The most common sensation felt during an acupuncture session is a small prick as the needle is inserted and penetrates the skin, followed by a dull ache as the needle is inserted to the proper depth. This sensation typically fades quickly. The needles are then left in place between 25 and 45 minutes, and patients report a deep sense of relation during their session.

Active Release Technique

Active Release Technique is a soft tissue technique used to evaluate and treat conditions associated with overused muscles, tendons and ligaments; such as headaches, joint pain, neck and back pain, plantar fasciitis and athletic injuries. Dr. Leighton is trained in A.R.T. protocols.

Webster Technique

The Webster Technique is a technique specific for women during pregnancy. It is a safe and gentle way to adjust pelvic structures, muscles, and ligaments that have become tight and painful during pregnancy. Treating these areas decreases back and hip pain associated with pregnancy, and also allows the baby to move into the ideal position for delivery. It is important to have the pelvis evaluated for any misalignments or abnormal movement patterns, as this will help to promote a smooth delivery for both the baby and mother.

Pregnancy and Postpartum Care

Expecting mothers tend to experience many discomforts that present themselves during different trimesters of pregnancy, including low back and neck pain , sciatica, headaches, fatigue, constipation, morning sickness and reflux. It is extremely important to focus on and discuss postpartum recovery for all moms following the birth of their child. Many mothers do not receive adequate information as to how to replenish their body following birth. Most women are nutritionally depleted after their pregnancy, which can lead to the conditions and symptoms that many women experience following birth. These include fatigue, postpartum depression, muscular pain, as well as other physical complaints. By incorporating soft tissue work, kinesiology taping, and therapeutic exercises into chiropractic treatment plans, mothers are able to feel their best before, during, and after their pregnancies.
